Proofreading Services

Hey, Writer! Do you want clearer, cleaner writing? Then you need a proofreader!

What is a proofreader?

Proofreaders are the knights standing between a finished document and embarrassment. They are the people who check to make sure text is error-free before it’s released into the world.

Whether you’ve written fiction or nonfiction, a business report, a lengthy spreadsheet, a piece of copy, a poem, or something else entirely, you will benefit greatly from having a second pair of eyes check your document for errors.

Let me be those eyes.

I’m used to working under tight, strict deadlines on a weekly basis and handling multiple documents that need to be perfect in a single day. I’m good at it, and, best of all, I like it.

Don’t you want to hire a proofreader who likes their job?

You want your writing to be clear, readable, and typo-free. You care about your words. I care, too. I know how important your writing is to you. When you and I work together, I will help you get the results you want: cleaner, clearer words that sparkle and shine.

I have experience with the following:

  • Long fiction
  • Short stories
  • Poetry
  • News articles
  • Editorials
  • Résumés
  • Spreadsheets
  • Lists of data (including names and numbers)
  • Formatted newspaper pages bound for publication
  • Blog posts
  • And more

When I proofread, I look for the following:

  • Grammar errors
  • Spelling errors
  • Issues with writing style, such as repetitive phrasing, awkward flow, inconsistent details, lack of clarity, or inconsistent punctuation
  • Problems with visual style, such as unbolded words, text that’s out of alignment, and more
  • And more!

How this works

First off, I’ll do a sample edit for you, just so we can see how we get along. For free, I will look over 400 words of yours, mark them up so you can give ’em the ol’ scrubby-scrubby, and send them back to you.

If you like what I do, then we can move on to the next step: hiring.

Once you say, “Hey, let’s do this,” sign the contract, and pay me my deposit, I’ll get started. I’ll go through the document you’ve sent me and flag every issue that I spot from page one to “The End.”

As I’m going along, whether I’ve been sent a style guide or not, I’ll be taking notes on repeated problems, details, and the stylistic quirks that make your writing yours. Then, I’ll read over your work again, and again, and maybe again and again, if necessary, until I’m satisfied. My proofreading services take time, but I’m thorough.

When I’m done, I’ll send you an invoice for the rest of your bill, you’ll send me your payment, and I’ll send you your document.

I won’t sterilize your writing and turn it into something it’s not. I won’t judge you for any mistakes you’ve made. Writing is hard, and none of us are perfect. Two pens are mightier than one, so let’s work together to make your words better, shall we?

  • $0.025 to $0.03 per word, depending on the effort required
  • Minimum $15 for 500 words or less, excluding the words from your sample edit
